About Carrie Tyler, RN, E-RYT 500

Barre & Soul's Director of Yoga Teacher Training

Carrie Tyler brings her twenty plus years experience as a yoga teacher, structural therapist and wellness expert to Barre & Soul's teacher training.  Her roots began in professional dance before she devoted her life to teaching yoga, Pilates, barre, and dynamic anatomy.  She is known for her playful teaching style, strong knowledge of anatomy and alignment, and her deep understanding of yogic philosophy and subtle energetics.  Carrie considers all forms of movement and complimentary healing therapies to be preventative medicine. She emphatically believes that self-care and regular practice can reconcile many imbalances and dis"eases" of the body.

Carrie is the founder of the Rasamaya Method, a nationally recognized and trademarked system of movement that merges mind-body medicine and exercise science with the wisdom of yoga philosophy as it applies to modern day life and holistic pain management.  She is a writer and business consultant for both the fitness and medical industry. Her work has been featured in numerous national magazines and conferences.

When she isn't presenting, seeing clients, or teaching she works as a nurse at the Orthopaedic Institute in Portland, Maine. She holds advanced certifications from some of the most highly regarded fitness bodies such as Yoga Alliance, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and the Pilates Method Alliance.   She is also an initiate of the Aghor Yoga Lineage whose non-denominational principles emphasize the celebration of personal freedom, daily meditation practice and selfless service, which she considers the grounding ethics in her life. In her spare time she walks the beach and watches the world fly past while riding pillion on her husband's motorcycle.

Who should attend this course?
Serious students of any level of ability. This program offers instruction in beginning, intermediate, and advanced methods of asanas (poses) and pranayama (breathing). It is ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in an intense discipline either to begin or to deepen a practice. Advanced techniques will be explored in some of the specialty classes.

I'm a yoga teacher already, can I benefit from this program?
Absolutely. This course is designed to expand your knowledge of the theory and practices of yoga as well as to develop and enhance your teaching skills.

Oops. I missed a class. Now what?
If you miss a Tuesday/Thursday night class you can make it up at our other location where they will be utilizing the same program, curriculum, and instructor.

Are all 12 Sunday intensives required?
Yes, and you wouldn't want to miss these super fun, informative intensives with Boston's best and brightest. Both Melrose and Cambridge trainees will meet together for 12 Sunday Intensive workshops from 12:30pm-6:30pm, and 3 two-hour study pod sessions.

Darn it. I missed an intensive. Am I totally screwed?
If you need to miss a weekend workshop you can make it up for free the next year of teacher training and receive a provisional certification OR you can make your own arrangements to attend a workshop with the same teacher on your own time and money.

It sounds so convenient, is this true good to be true?
Believe your eyes. You will find this is one of the most flexible programs in the Boston area.  The workshops are attended by both yoga schools (Melrose and Harvard Square) thus expanding your yoga network.

How long do I need to have been practicing yoga to enroll?
1 year of yoga practice suggested to enroll in this program, but sometimes special exceptions are made for dedicated students with experience in similar disciplines.

What books are required?
Trail Guide to the Body by Andrew R. Biel
Yoga Teaching by Mark Stephens
Yoga Sequencing by Mark Stephens
Yoga Adjustments by Mark Stephens
Yoga of the Nine Emotions by Peter Marchand

What happens at the end of the course?
At the end of the course, all participants who have attended the required  number of classes will receive a Certificate of Completion.  This course is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level, so that graduates can become registered Yoga Teachers.

Testimonials from recent gradS

"Barre & Soul's 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training was a life changing experience and one of the best decisions I ever made. The six-month training opened up a whole new world and stirred a passion within me I didn't know existed. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to meet and learn from some of the best yoga educators and instructors in the area that Barre & Soul brought together for this well organized program. The training left me feeling empowered and inspired, a confident teacher able to lead a class through a practice safely and mindfully. I highly recommend this program for those interested in teaching yoga and seeking to deepen their practice."

"Being a part of Barre & Soul’s 200-HR Yoga Teaching Training program was one of the best decisions I have made for my own personal growth. The program was a challenging, yet supportive environment to learn the fundamentals for yoga teaching and philosophy. The highly knowledgeable teaching staff was varied in personality and style, which supported learning and self-discovery on a number of levels.

Their high regard for alignment and safety for yourself as a practitioner and for your students was the cornerstone of the Barre & Soul program. Being exposed to a wide spectrum of yoga teachings and interest areas during the Sunday workshops added a fun element to the program’s weekly lessons. If you are interested in learning more about yourself and your yoga practice or think you want to teach yoga I highly recommend the Barre & Soul program!"
